Now part of a private collection
3121 is part of an ongoing pictorial investigation into what endures. Rather than representing a specific place, the work seeks to approach the traces that time leaves upon experience and memory.
Through successive layers of colour, translucent veils and areas of apparent erosion, the painting unfolds as a process of accumulation. Each layer conceals and reveals at the same time, creating a silent tension between presence and absence, between what remains visible and what has settled beneath the surface.
Within Maria Paola Coda’s artistic practice, layers are more than a formal device. They function as a metaphor for sedimented memory: experiences, emotions and recollections that do not disappear, but persist in transformed form through the passage of time.
Far from any explicit narrative, 3121 offers a space for contemplation where intensity emerges through restraint. The work invites the viewer to slow down and move across a surface that preserves traces, shifts and accumulated resonances, as though each layer carried the memory of a previous moment.
This inquiry forms a central thread within Maria Paola Coda’s contemporary painting practice, exploring the relationship between time, permanence and emotional depth.
